Aliases of applications' names

By default, on the process list and in statistics, uplook displays names of executed files for specified applications. It is a kind of difficulty while analysing the list and statistics, if a user does not know names of individual programs precisely. For example, Outlook Express has msimn.exe as an executable file. To make this analysis easier, uplook enables to define aliases for names of executable files. For this purpose, select Applications Applications Names Aliases from the main menu or click on the toolbar. A dialogue box for aliases of applications’ names will be displayed on the screen.

If you want to disable the use of aliases, select the Use aliases instead of file names checkbox.

All defined aliases are displayed on the list. The list can be freely modified by adding new aliases or editing or deleting the existing ones.

  • To add a new alias, press and in the displayed dialogue box enter the name of an executable file and its aliases. Identical aliases are allowed for different files (e.g. a setup program for setup. exe and install.exe files). However, you cannot assign more than one alias to a file. A dialogue box of a new alias may initially display a name of a relevant executable file. It happens when an alias is created directly from the process list or some types of statistics (such as history of processes, history of foreground processes, most frequently used applications) or from an application pattern wizard.
  • To change the existing alias, click and enter the desired changes into the displayed dialogue box.
  • To delete one or more aliases, select them on the list and click .
