How to create efficient application patterns

To open an application patterns wizard from the main menu select Applications Patterns Wizard..., click the button o the toolbar or press the key combination of Ctrl + W. A dialogue box of the application patterns wizard will be displayed on the screen.

In the window the three tabs are displayed: Patterns, Unidentified and Additional information.

Patterns

The Patterns tab includes all defined application patterns. The list may include all patterns or be limited to patterns of applications from a selected producer. A producer can be selected from the Producer list. In the following columns on the list information on a producer , application and the Omit checkbox are displayed. The checkbox is selected for these applications which are elements of an operating system or are distributed as freeware.

Patterns marked with have been entered by a producer and are uneditable or irremovable. Patterns marked with the sign have been defined by a user and they can e freely edited or removed.

To create a new pattern, click .

To delete a previously defined pattern, select it on the list and click .

To change a defined pattern or to view its detailed definition, highlight the pattern on the list and click .

Unidentified

The Unidentified tab includes information on all applications which have not been recognised in the course of a software audit. This information allows you to create application patterns fast. The list may cover all programs or only applications of a selected producer. A producer can be selected from the Producer list. If on the information panel on the Audit tab one or more unidentified applications have been selected to create patterns, the list includes only selected lines.

To create a new pattern, highlight a selected program on the list and click .

To delete unidentified application, highlight it on the list and click .

To see application properties, highlight it on the list and click .

In the version including the statlook module it is possible to create aliases for names of executable files to facilitate the analysis of statistics. To create an alias of a file name, highlight an application on the list and click the .

Additional information

The Additional information tab includes a list of producers for defined application patterns and information on the numbers of patterns and unidentified applications.

Names marked with have been entered by a producer and are uneditable or irremovable. The ones marked with the sign have been defined by a user and they can e freely edited or removed.

To create a new producer, click .

To change a producer’s data, highlight the producer on the list and click .

To delete a previously defined producer, highlight the producer on the list and click . The deletion will result in the deletion of all patterns of applications from this producer.
