Information panel - Statistics

It is possible to receive statistics from more than one computer. To do so go to tab Network on information panel and select a network, group or computers you want to receive statistics from and click or choose from the main menu Network Read statistics. uplook will establish connection with all selected computers and then it will start transmiting data in "background".

The Statistics tab on the information panel enables you to compile a number of statistical overviews representing the usage of a computer. Data required for analyses is constantly fetched by Agents installed on users’ computers. Then the data is transferred to uplook. By clicking relevant buttons on the toolbar you can view the following types of statistics:

Statistical overviews can be created for one day, month or a year and for any user-defined time range. As many users can work on (log in) one computer, you can specify a user.

You can choose the range of analysis from the calendar on the left. The calendar has a tree structure, representing a year, month and day on subsequent levels. In the calendar only these days for which statistical data has been collected are displayed. By highlighting a day, month or year, you can display statistics for a selected period.

The other possibility for choosing the analysis range is to specify a staring date in the Range of analysis frame. Set starting date in field From and the ending date in the field To. A selected time range will be adjusted according to the existing data, which means that only days for which statistical data was collected will be displayed.

The drop-down User list shows all users of a monitored computer. If you change your selection, statistics are automatically prepared for a selected user. You can also carry out a summary analysis for all computer users by selecting (All).

The Application frame contains the list and the (Display max.) edit field, where you can specify a maximum number of analysed applications. These fields are used for analysing running and foreground applications, their usage and activity, and the most frequently used applications. To facilitate the analyses you can specify aliases. To do so, right click on the application list and select Application Names Aliases… from the context menu. A dialogue box for aliases will be displayed on the screen.

In the case of many computers which are monitored for a long time, statistical data requires more and more space in a database. Therefore, it is recommended to remove the oldest overviews periodically. To delete statistics for a current (opened) user from a selected day, select this day in the calendar and from the main menu select Statistics Delete... or click on the toolbar. You can delete the whole statistics for a current user by selecting Statistics Delete All from the main menu or clicking on the toolbar.

Statistics is a powerful tool, which is used to estimate the extent and manner of computer usage. They provide reliable and objective estimate of work efficiency. Along with other uplook functions, they facilitate the detection of time wasted on visiting Web pages, computer games, participation in chats and forums, using other software which is not related to a work profile. On the basis of statistics you are able to find out how much time is actually devoted to work, or whether the phenomena mentioned above are incidental or periodic.
However, statistics should not be used as one and unquestionable criterion for employee evaluation.

Printing

To print statistics, select File Print... from the main menu, or click on the toolbar or press the key combination of Ctrl + P. The printout includes a currently selected type of summary. You cannot print pie charts and bar charts. Information on a user and operating system is also attached to each printout. You can display a print preview by selecting File Print Preview...

Saving as Microsoft Excel workbook

Saving as Microsoft Excel workbook is possible only, when Excel has been installed. To save a set of statistics, select File Save as from the main menu or click on the toolbar or press the key combination of Ctrl + A. A typical dialogue box for selecting a file to save will be displayed on a screen. When you select a file location and name, press the Save button. Contrary to the printout, the file which has been created includes all types of statistics. A pie chart showing the most frequently used applications is also attached.
