External scanner

An external file scanner allows you to perform software audit on all computers, which are not connected to the network or do not have Agent installed. A scanner is used to perform software audit when it is not possible or permitted to install Agents.

To use an external file scanner you should prepare a drive, on which relevant files will be copied. Scanning results will be also saved there. A drive can be a diskette or for example a Pen-Drive. Any other network drive which is available for all audited computers can be also used.

If you want to copy scanner files on a selected drive you should select Applications Copy Files for Audit..., click on the toolbar or click the key combination of Ctrl + K. A dialogue box for preparing audit files will be displayed on the screen.

Enter an access path into Select a folder to which the files should be copied… You can also use the button to display a typical dialogue box for selecting a folder. While copying files onto a floppy disc or a Pen-Drive, you may only specify a drive e.g. A:\.

Then choose the platform - operating system - where you intend to use the scaner. Use the dropdown list Platform to make your choice. Available options are:

  • Microsoft Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003, for systems Windows 95, Windows 95 OSR 2, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003.
  • MS-DOS, for systems MS-DOS 4.0, MS-DOS 5.0, MS-DOS 6.0, MS-DOS 6.2, MS-DOS 6.22.
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1, for all 16-bit Windows systems, including Windows 3.1 and Windows 3.11.

For platforms Microsoft Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 you can define additional fields, which will enable to extend information which is retrieved in the course of audit. To do so, click the User- defined Fields…

If audit is to include files other than only executable, you can define their masks using a dialogue box which is accessed by clicking Types of Audited Files…

After clicking Copy all files required to run the scanner will be copied into a selected folder.
